About Daughterhood UK

Why Daughterhood UK Exists

Daughterhood UK helps unpaid carers navigate the challenges of caring for family members with confidence and clarity. We provide personalised guidance, practical tools, expertise and emotional support so no one has to figure it alone.

Through 1:1 support, consultancy, resources and community, we aim to make caring more manageable and help carers to feel more understood, empowered and supported.

About the founder

I’m Nic, founder of Daughterhood.

Like so many others, I became a carer long before I had the language, support, or confidence to call myself one.

It didn’t happen all at once. It built over time.

Helping where I could. Stepping in when needed. Doing what families do.

Until one day, it was all on me.

After my dad passed away in my late 20’s everything shifted.

My mum and brother had both been diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy, and the responsibility for their care became mine.

I was navigating grief alongside appointments, assessments, and decisions that couldn’t wait.

Trying to hold everything together while pushing systems, services, and employers to recognise what was actually needed.

There was no clear path. No one telling me how it worked. Just constant pressure to get it right.

And I know how that feels.

The exhaustion.
The responsibility.
The weight of being the one everyone relies on.

Alongside that, I’ve spent over a decade working across health and social care, supporting services, improving systems, and understanding how things really work behind the scenes.

Daughterhood UK brings those two worlds together.

The lived experience of being in it, and the professional expertise to help others navigate it with clarity and confidence.

This isn’t just my work.

It’s built from real life, real responsibility, and the belief that no one should have to figure this out alone.

Experience you can trust

With over two decades of senior health and social care experience, I've led services as a Registered Care Manager and worked nationally as a consultant supporting care businesses to improve quality, operations, and growth.

I understand how the system functions behind the scenes, where it breaks down and what it takes to fix it, through direct work with local authorities, providers, and community organisations.

I hold an MSc in Health Informatics and am completing a Professional Doctorate in Community and Social Care with the University of Lancashire.

When care falls on you, everything can feel unclear. Clarity starts when you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Daughterhood is here to help you steady things and take the next step, when you’re ready.
